Exported videos play at the wrong speed
If your exported videos in Coach Paint are playing at the wrong speed, don’t worry, this is usually caused by a simple configuration issue.
Why does this happen?
This problem occurs when the frame rate (fps) of the video you’re importing is different from the one configured in the Config Editor under the Video tab
Coach Paint automatically adapts imported clips to match the format defined in the Config Editor. When the frame rates don’t match, the playback speed of your exported videos can change.
What is a “Frame Rate”?
A video is not a single continuous recording—it’s actually a sequence of images shown in rapid succession to create the illusion of motion.
- Frame rate (fps) = how many images (frames) are displayed per second.
- Example: A video at 50 fps shows 50 frames each second, creating smoother motion.
- The higher the fps, the smoother the video looks.
Why does speed change?
Here are the most common cases:
1. Frame rate matches
- Example: Original video = 50 fps, Config Editor = 50 fps.
- Playback works as expected.
2. Original fps is lower than Config Editor
- Example: Original = 30 fps, Config Editor = 50 fps.
- Coach Paint increases the fps to match.
- Result: Video plays faster.
3. Original fps is higher than Config Editor
- Example: Original = 60 fps, Config Editor = 50 fps.
- Coach Paint reduces the fps.
- Result: Video plays slower.
How to check the fps of your video
On Windows:
- Open File Explorer and locate your video.
- Right-click and select Properties.
- Go to the Details tab, scroll to the Video section and check Frame rate.
On Mac:
- Open your video with QuickTime.
- Press Cmd + I to open the Inspector.
- Look for Format. The fps will be displayed.
How to fix the issue
- Check the frame rate of your video (using the steps above).
- Open the Config Editor in Coach Paint.
- Adjust the frame rate to match your video (or the closest available value).
- Save, close, and relaunch Coach Paint.
Important notes:
- Changing the video format in the Config Editor may delete your current project. Be sure to export any work in progress before making changes.
- If you enable the “Match Video Format” option when importing, Coach Paint will only accept clips that exactly match your selected format and frame rate. This completely prevents the playback speed issue, but at the cost of losing the flexibility to import multiple videos with different frame rates at the same time.
